Exploring MQTT and Device Integration in Home Assistant

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent journey with MQTT and device integration in Home Assistant. While setting up my MQTT configuration after the latest updates, I stumbled upon some questions about integrations and add-ons that I thought might be helpful to discuss here.

First, I’ve been using the Mosquitto broker add-on for a while now, and it’s been working like a charm. I noticed that there’s also a Mosquitto broker listed under integrations, which I didn’t recall seeing before. My initial thought was whether this built-in integration is redundant if I already have the add-on running. Can I safely remove the integration without affecting my setup? I’d love to hear from others who might have encountered this or have insights into how these two work together.

Another thing I wanted to touch on is device compatibility and aesthetics. I’ve been planning my Zigbee and Z-Wave+ networks and came across some interesting discussions about mixing different brands of smart switches. Specifically, there’s been talk about whether Zooz dimmers and Enbrighten dimmers look identical when installed side by side in the same gang plate. While they appear similar in product photos, personal experiences might vary. I’d love to hear from anyone who has firsthand experience with this!

Lastly, I wanted to share a quick tip for anyone looking to streamline their MQTT setup. I found that organizing topics by device category (e.g., home/lights, home/sensors) makes it much easier to manage and troubleshoot. It also helps when integrating with other services or automations.

What are your thoughts on MQTT configurations and device integration? Have you encountered any unique challenges or found any innovative solutions? I’d love to hear your experiences and tips!

Cheers,
