Exploring MQTT Broker Setup and Zigbee Network Optimization

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of MQTT brokers and Zigbee networks lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and some questions I’ve come across.

First off, I’ve been trying to set up an MQTT broker on my Raspberry Pi 4. I’ve heard that Mosquitto is a solid choice, but I’m a bit confused about whether it’s considered a system broker or not. From what I understand, system brokers are read-only and can’t be modified through the MQTT binding in openHAB, which might limit some features. I’d love to know if there’s a way to configure Mosquitto in a way that still allows for auto-discovery and compatibility with various smart home devices.

On the Zigbee front, I’ve been troubleshooting some connectivity issues with my network. I’ve noticed that some devices have low LQI values, even though they seem to be working fine. I’m wondering if there are steps I can take to improve these values or if it’s something I can safely ignore. Additionally, I’ve come across some ‘null’ records in my routing table, and I’m not entirely sure what they mean or how they impact my network performance. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Another thing I’m curious about is integrating different smart home brands. I’ve got a mix of Z-Wave and Zigbee devices, and I’d love to find a seamless way to manage them all through a single platform. Has anyone had success with this kind of integration, and what tools or settings did you find most helpful?

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with using Tasker on my Garmin watch to control my smart home devices. It’s been a fun project, and I’d love to hear how others are leveraging wearable technology to enhance their smart home setups.

I’m really enjoying the journey of learning and customizing my smart home ecosystem, and I’m excited to hear your thoughts and experiences on these topics!
