As I’m preparing to move into my new home, I’ve been diving into the world of multi-room audio systems. The idea of having seamless audio throughout every room is incredibly appealing, but the options out there can be overwhelming, especially for someone like me who’s relatively new to home automation.
My primary requirements are straightforward: speakers in almost every room, the ability to play audio from a single source to all speakers simultaneously, and the flexibility to have multiple different audio streams in separate rooms. I also want to keep costs reasonable, as systems like Sonos and Control4 feel a bit out of reach for my budget.
During my research, I’ve come across a few potential solutions. One option is using Chromecast in each room, which seems like a budget-friendly approach. Another idea is setting up a central system with multiple USB soundcards, which could offer more control and customization. However, I’m not entirely sure how these solutions would integrate with Home Assistant, which is a key part of my smart home ecosystem.
