Exploring New Automation Features and Sensor Calibration

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into some exciting new features and troubleshooting a couple of issues in my smart home setup. Let me share what I’ve discovered and how you might find it useful!

First off, I came across the new Simple Automation Rule Version 1.1 in the latest platform update. It’s a fantastic upgrade with improved triggers and actions. I was thrilled to see the addition of color temperature control for bulbs and the ability to set opposite actions after a time delay. For instance, I can now set my lights to turn on at sunset and automatically dim after 30 minutes. This level of customization is making my home feel even smarter!

However, I ran into an interesting challenge with my ESPHome setup. I noticed that the BH1750 light sensor was consistently reading double the expected lux values, especially in high-resolution mode 2. After some research, I realized this was a known issue where the sensor’s output needs to be halved for accurate readings. While I could apply a filter in my configuration to correct this, I wonder if this adjustment could be made standard in future ESPHome updates to save others from the same confusion.

On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Govee LED strips with my TV setup. It’s amazing how seamlessly they sync with the on-screen action, creating an immersive cinematic experience. I’d love to hear how others are using their Govee lights creatively!

Lastly, I stumbled upon a handy tip for managing multiple devices from different brands. Using the Tuya app as an intermediary has been a lifesaver for controlling devices that aren’t natively supported by Home Assistant. It’s been especially useful for my LSC TV HDMI Sync Box, which I’ve been using to create a dynamic lighting ambiance around my TV setup.

If anyone has tips on optimizing sensor accuracy or creative automation ideas, I’d love to hear them! Happy tinkering everyone!
