Hi everyone, I’m new to the world of home automation and I’ve been experimenting with various platforms like Domoticz and Home Assistant. After some research, I’ve decided to go with openHAB for its configuration flexibility, even though it’s not the most visually appealing option. I’ve been using openHAB v1 on my FreeNAS jail, but I’m curious if I should switch directly to v2 for better long-term support. I plan to use MQTT with ESP8266/Arduino, so I’d love to hear your thoughts on this setup!
Another thing I’ve been exploring is lighting automation. I’ve set up some smart bulbs and dimmers, but I’m running into an issue where I can’t group multiple bulbs under a single dimmer. They show up as separate devices, and I’m not sure if this is a configuration problem or something related to the bulb type. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated!
I’ve also been looking into camera integration, specifically with Ring doorbell cameras. I’d love to have a widget similar to the one on the Echo Hub to display live feeds directly on my dashboard. Does anyone know if this is possible or if there are any workarounds?
For those of you who’ve successfully integrated multiple smart devices, I’d love to hear about your experiences. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? I’m especially interested in tips for maintaining a stable system, especially with a mix of different brands and protocols.
Finally, I’d like to thank everyone in this community for their support and willingness to share knowledge. It’s amazing to see how much we can achieve with the right tools and a bit of creativity!
Looking forward to your insights and tips!
