Exploring OpenHAB Workshops and Broadlink Binding Migration

Hello fellow OpenHAB enthusiasts! I wanted to share my recent experiences and insights regarding the upcoming OpenHAB workshops in Stuttgart and my journey of migrating the Broadlink binding from version 4.2 to 4.3.1. :rocket:

First off, I recently came across the announcement for the OpenHAB workshops in Stuttgart, and I must say, it’s incredibly exciting! The hands-on sessions, especially the developer workshop led by Patrick Fink, sound like a fantastic opportunity to dive deeper into binding development. If you’re in the area or planning to attend, I’d love to connect and share our experiences afterward!

Now, onto my Broadlink binding migration adventure. For those who might not know, I’ve been using the Broadlink RM4 Mini for my climate control system, and it’s been working flawlessly for years. However, with the release of OpenHAB 4.3.1, I decided it was time to upgrade my setup. The process wasn’t without its hurdles, but the outcome was well worth it!

Here’s a quick rundown of my migration steps:

  1. Backup Everything: I made sure to back up my current configuration thoroughly. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
  2. Remove Old Binding: I deleted the existing Broadlink thing and cleaned up the old binding files to ensure a fresh start.
  3. Install New Binding: After a clean install of OpenHAB 4.3.1, I installed the new Broadlink binding from the official store.
  4. Reconfigure: I recreated the Broadlink RM4 Mini thing, reusing my existing IF-commands. It was smooth sailing from there!

The best part? Everything worked seamlessly after the migration! A huge shoutout to Anton for the incredible support and the community for their resources. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love the OpenHAB ecosystem—it’s powerful, flexible, and backed by an amazing community. :muscle:

If anyone else has gone through a similar migration or has tips for others looking to upgrade, I’d love to hear your experiences! Let’s keep the knowledge flowing! :star2:

Cheers,
