Hi Community, I’ve been diving into the world of openHAB2 after trying out a few other home server solutions. It’s incredibly powerful, but like any new system, it comes with its learning curve. I’d love to share some of my experiences and questions as I set this up.
One thing I’m curious about is the future of configuration files. From what I understand, config files are somewhat of a relic from v1, and with v2 bindings becoming more prevalent, they might not be needed as much. I’m wondering if everything will eventually be configurable through the web console. It would definitely streamline the setup process!
Another topic I’m exploring is data storage. I’d like to know where the data generated through the web console is stored. Understanding this could help me better manage backups and ensure data integrity.
Visualization is another area I’m focusing on. I plan to separate the openHAB server from the user interface, running the latter on a dedicated machine in a different network. I came across smartVISU, but it seems like it requires direct communication with both the server and the openHAB instance, which isn’t ideal for my setup. Are there other tools or methods that could achieve this separation more cleanly?
Lastly, I’m keen to know if there’s a roadmap for openHAB2. It would be great to have a sense of what’s coming next, especially for features that could enhance my setup.
