Exploring Philips Hue Brightness Control and Automation Tips

I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting with Philips Hue, and I must say, it’s been an enlightening experience! :rocket: One thing that caught my attention was the brightness control feature, especially with different types of lamps. I noticed that my mobile lamp has a brightness channel that works seamlessly with sliders, showing the exact brightness value—just as it should. However, my floor lamp doesn’t have a brightness channel in its definition, which is a bit puzzling.

When I tried controlling it with a slider, the lights worked perfectly, but the slider displayed “NULL” instead of the brightness number. That’s a bit frustrating, but I’m determined to figure it out! I reached out to the community and found some helpful tips. Apparently, if it’s not possible to show the correct number, there’s a workaround where nothing (neither a number nor null) is shown. That’s a relief!

Another challenge I faced was setting up a rule to adjust brightness based on motion detection and time. I initially tried using Node-RED, but the value setting didn’t work well due to the missing brightness channel. After some research, I discovered that using variable math instead of “add number” resolved the issue. It’s all about finding the right approach!

I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar issues or have creative automation ideas. Let’s keep the conversation going and share our smart lighting hacks! :bulb::sparkles:
