Exploring Raspberry Pi Alternatives for OpenHAB

As someone who has relied heavily on Raspberry Pis for my OpenHAB setup, I’ve noticed the prices have skyrocketed, making them less accessible than they once were. I currently have five Raspberry Pis running my OpenHAB network, including three for Z-Wave coverage and two for RS485 electricity monitoring. Unfortunately, two of them recently stopped working, and finding replacements has been both expensive and frustrating.

I’ve heard about alternatives like Pine64, but the lack of Wi-Fi and the difficulty in finding compatible OSes have been dealbreakers for me. I’m curious if anyone else has found a reliable Raspberry Pi alternative that can maintain the simplicity and functionality I’ve come to expect from OpenHABian. I’d love to hear about your experiences and recommendations!

In the meantime, I’m hoping the Raspberry Pi prices will stabilize soon. It’s almost absurd that a Pi 4 is now priced at around €250 with a case and power supply—it’s almost cheaper to buy a low-end computer instead!

If anyone has successfully transitioned to a different platform or found a workaround, I’d be thrilled to learn more. Let’s see if we can find a cost-effective solution together!
