As someone who loves tinkering with smart home devices, I’ve been exploring how to integrate various gadgets into my OpenHAB setup. One of the most interesting projects I’ve undertaken recently is connecting my Oral-B toothbrush to my Raspberry Pi. It’s a fun way to track my brushing habits and see how they fit into my daily routine!
I stumbled upon a guide that explained how to use MQTT to send data from the toothbrush to OpenHAB. The process involved setting up a Raspberry Pi service to capture Bluetooth signals from the toothbrush and then forwarding that data via MQTT. It was a bit technical, but with some patience, I got it working. Now, I can monitor metrics like brushing time, pressure, and even which quadrants of my mouth I’m focusing on!
This integration has been a great learning experience. It showed me how versatile smart home setups can be, even for something as simple as a toothbrush.
