Exploring RF Switch Automation in Smart Home Setup

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of RF switches and automations, and I wanted to share my journey and some insights. I recently set up an RF switch to toggle a light in my bathroom, but it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster trying to get it to work seamlessly. Let me walk you through my experience and what I’ve learned along the way. :rocket:

Initially, I thought it would be straightforward—connect the RF switch to my Sonoff RF Bridge, define the payloads for on and off, and set up an automation. But here’s the kicker: the switch only sends a payload when pressed, not when released. This meant that after the first press, the automation worked, but subsequent presses didn’t do anything. Frustrating, right?

After some digging, I realized the issue was with how the payloads were being handled. The switch sends the same payload every time it’s pressed, so the automation was getting confused about whether the light should turn on or off. I ended up tweaking the automation logic to ensure it toggles the state correctly each time, regardless of the payload. It was a bit of trial and error, but I finally got it sorted! :tada:

This experience taught me the importance of understanding how payloads work in automations, especially with RF devices. It also highlighted the value of community support—without the forums and documentation, I might still be stuck. If anyone else is tackling similar projects, feel free to reach out! I’d love to hear how others are handling RF switch automations. :handshake:

Looking ahead, I’m excited to explore more advanced automations and maybe even integrate some motion sensors or smart lighting scenes. The possibilities are endless, and it’s thrilling to see how technology can enhance our daily lives. Keep innovating, everyone! :bulb::sparkles:
