Exploring Server Updates and Smart Home Automation

As a relatively new member of this community, I’ve been actively exploring various aspects of home automation and server management. One topic that has piqued my interest is monitoring remote server updates. I’ve successfully set up Glances in Home Assistant, but I’m curious if there’s a way to track OS updates for my home lab servers without resorting to something like Apticron. It would be fantastic to have this information integrated seamlessly into my dashboard for easier management.

Another area I’ve been diving into is smart home automation, particularly with sprinkler systems. I’ve encountered an intriguing issue where manually triggering a sprinkler rule doesn’t behave as expected. The rule works flawlessly when initiated automatically, but when I manually run it, the wait time doesn’t hold as intended. This inconsistency is puzzling, and I’m wondering if it’s a bug in the rule machine or if there’s a workaround I’m missing. The sprinkler logs show the correct wait time, but the action ends prematurely, which is quite frustrating.

On a lighter note, I’ve also been enjoying setting up my Wyze smart doorbell. It’s been a breeze to integrate with my existing security system, and the notifications are timely. However, I’ve noticed that the app occasionally freezes on my iPhone, which is a minor inconvenience but something I hope gets addressed in future updates.

I’m eager to hear from more experienced users about their approaches to server monitoring and automation troubleshooting. Your insights would be invaluable as I continue to expand and refine my smart home setup. Let’s keep the discussions flowing and share our experiences to help each other grow in this exciting journey of home automation!
