Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’ve come across something pretty exciting with my Shelly devices. I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is looking to expand their network coverage, especially in tricky areas like gardens or patios.
So, here’s the deal: I’ve got a couple of Shelly Dimmers, and I noticed that one of them was sitting in a spot where the main WiFi signal was a bit weak. I remember reading about the Shelly’s WLAN cascading feature and thought, why not give it a shot? The idea is to use one Shelly device as a base unit connected to your main WiFi, and then use its built-in AP mode to create a secondary network that another Shelly device can connect to.
I set it up by configuring the first Shelly Dimmer to connect to my main WiFi. Then, I enabled the AP mode on it, which created a new network. The second Shelly Dimmer, located on my patio, connected seamlessly to this new network. It’s been working like a charm! Now, I can control my outdoor lights without any lag or connectivity issues.
This setup has been a game-changer for me, especially since I don’t want to run additional Ethernet cables all over the place. It’s a neat solution that keeps everything wireless and tidy. Plus, it’s been a fun project to experiment with different configurations and see how far I can push the network coverage in my home.
If anyone else has tried something similar or has tips on optimizing Shelly’s network capabilities, I’d love to hear about it! Happy automating everyone! ![]()
