Exploring SimCam Integration for Home Assistant

I’ve been really intrigued by the SimCam Kickstarter campaign! The idea of having a local AI-powered security camera with facial recognition and object tracking sounds like a game-changer for home automation. I’ve been using Home Assistant for a while now, and the thought of seamlessly integrating SimCam into my setup is both exciting and a bit overwhelming.

From what I understand, SimCam offers an open SDK and RTSP feed, which suggests that integration with Home Assistant could be quite straightforward. However, I’m hoping to take it a step further. I’d love for the camera to not only detect motion but also recognize faces and send specific alerts to Home Assistant when certain conditions are met. For example, if my kids arrive home after school, I’d like the system to automatically adjust the thermostat or turn on the lights without needing to manually check the camera feed.

My questions are:

  1. Integration Expectations: What kind of out-of-the-box integration can I realistically expect with SimCam and Home Assistant? Will I need to write custom scripts, or is there a more streamlined approach?
  2. Component Availability: Has anyone else started working on or considering a Home Assistant component for SimCam? I’d love to collaborate or at least get some guidance on how to approach this.

I’m really hopeful that this could be a seamless addition to my smart home setup. If anyone has experience with similar integrations or tips on how to get started, I’d be incredibly grateful for the insights! Let’s make this happen! :rocket:
