Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been a fascinating journey! One of my recent projects has been setting up an automatic cleaning system for when my son leaves the house. The idea is to have the room cleaned, windows opened, and bed made all on its own. I thought it would be straightforward, but boy, did I learn a thing or two along the way!
First, I set up his phone as a device_tracker entity. I figured if I could track his movements, I could trigger the automation when he leaves. I added him as a Person in the system and created an automation using “Areas” as the trigger. But here’s where I hit a snag—only my wife and I showed up as available options, not him. It was confusing because his presence history was working perfectly. After a bit of research, I realized I needed to ensure his phone was correctly registered with the WiFi access point. Once that was sorted, everything fell into place!
This experience made me appreciate the power of smart home integrations. It’s amazing how a simple setup can save so much time. I’m now thinking of expanding this idea to other areas of the house. For instance, what if the lights turned off automatically when no one was in the room, or the thermostat adjusted based on occupancy? The possibilities are endless!
I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar projects. What tips or tricks have you found useful? Have you encountered any unexpected challenges? Let’s share our experiences and learn from each other!
