Exploring Smart Home Automation for Fireplace Control

I’ve recently been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I’m absolutely fascinated by how much I can integrate different systems to make my home more convenient and efficient. However, I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock with my gas fireplace, and I’m hoping the community can offer some insights or solutions.

So, here’s the setup: I live in a 4,000 sqft home with a mix of smart devices—Eero routers, Nest thermostats, Ring doorbell, Philips Hue lights, automated door locks, and even some Z-Wave devices from Alarm.com. It’s all pretty pieced-together, but it works surprisingly well. My goal is to automate the control of my gas fireplace, which is currently operated by a simple on/off switch. I’ve heard that integrating this with a smart hub like Hubitat could make things seamless, but I’m not entirely sure where to start.

I’ve been told that adding a smart switch might be the way to go, but I’m wondering if there’s a simpler solution without having to overhaul my entire system. Is there a way to integrate the existing switch with my Harmony remote or another hub? I’d love to be able to control the fireplace with a simple voice command or through my phone app.

Another thing I’m curious about is how all these devices can work together more cohesively. I know I have a few Z-Wave pieces from Alarm.com, but I’m not sure how they interact with my other systems. Maybe there’s a way to streamline everything and make my home automation setup more unified.

If anyone has experience with similar setups or has successfully automated a gas fireplace, I’d love to hear about your journey and any tips you might have. Whether it’s about choosing the right hub, integrating existing devices, or simplifying the automation process, I’m all ears!

Looking forward to learning from your experiences and hopefully finding a solution that makes my fireplace as smart as the rest of my home. Thanks in advance for your insights!
