Over the past few months, I’ve been diving into integrating various smart devices to create a more connected and efficient living space. While the journey has been incredibly rewarding, there are a few questions and challenges I’d love to discuss with the community.
One of my recent projects involved setting up a solar panel system in my home office and workshop. I’ve installed a 10kWp photovoltaic array on the south-facing wall, which powers several high-temperature infrared heaters. The goal is to have these heaters run solely on surplus electricity generated by the solar panels. I’ve programmed the system so that one heater activates when there’s a surplus of 2-4kW, and two heaters kick in when the surplus exceeds 4kW. While this setup is functional, I’m curious if anyone has experience with similar systems and if there are best practices or tweaks I should consider to optimize energy usage.
Another area I’m exploring is integrating devices from multiple brands. I recently acquired a Govee light strip and a Wyze camera, and I’m eager to see how they can work together seamlessly. For instance, I’d love to set up a routine where the light strip changes color based on motion detected by the Wyze camera. Has anyone successfully integrated Govee and Wyze devices, and if so, what steps did you take?
On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with creating custom light shows for special occasions. While the built-in modes on my Govee devices are great, I’d love to have more control over the patterns and timing. I’ve heard about users modifying scripts or using third-party apps to achieve this, but I’m not sure where to start. Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, I’m pondering the future of smart home security. With the increasing number of devices and potential vulnerabilities, I’m curious about the best practices for securing my smart home setup. Are there specific protocols or tools that the community recommends to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely?
