Exploring Smart Home Automation on a Rental: Tips and Tricks

Hello everyone, I’m here to share my journey and experiences with setting up a smart home system while living in a rental property. As many of you might know, renting can sometimes limit the extent to which you can customize your living space, especially when it comes to hardware installations. However, with a bit of creativity and the right gadgets, it’s entirely possible to enjoy the convenience of smart home automation without making permanent changes to your rental. One of my key takeaways has been the importance of smart plugs. I’ve been using a variety of Gosund, Amazon, and Teckin smart plugs to control everything from lamps to small appliances. While compatibility can sometimes be a hurdle, I’ve found that sticking to one brand or ensuring that devices are compatible with a central hub like Hubitat has made a significant difference. It’s also been a great way to experiment with different devices without committing to more permanent solutions.Another area where I’ve had great success is with voice control. Integrating Amazon Echo devices has allowed me to automate routines such as turning off lights, adjusting thermostats, and even controlling my TV. It’s been a fantastic way to streamline my daily routines without needing to install any additional hardware.I’d love to hear from others who are also setting up smart homes in rental properties.
