Hey everyone!
I’ve been diving deep into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights with you all. ![]()
First off, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the integration possibilities between Alexa and Hubitat.
For those who aren’t familiar, Hubitat is a fantastic platform for managing smart home devices, especially when it comes to custom integrations and automation. Pairing it with Alexa has opened up a whole new level of functionality for my setup. I’ve been able to create some really cool scenes and routines that make my home feel truly smart. ![]()

One thing I’ve been particularly excited about is the ability to create virtual media players in Alexa.
I’ve seen this done with lights, thermostats, and switches, and I’m curious if it’s possible to replicate this with TV or media player devices. I’ve come across some Node-RED solutions, but I’m not entirely sure how to adapt them for media players. If anyone has any tips or resources, I’d love to hear about them! ![]()
On the automation front, I’ve been experimenting with time-based triggers in Hubitat.
It’s been a learning curve figuring out how to make these triggers work seamlessly with different devices and sensors. One thing I’d love to see more of is templating within time triggers. For example, being able to control the frequency of a trigger using an input slider would add a whole new layer of flexibility to my automations. Has anyone worked on something like this before? I’d love to collaborate or at least get some pointers! ![]()
Another area I’ve been exploring is security and notifications.
I’ve set up some motion sensors and doorbell cameras, and I’m really impressed with how responsive they are. However, I’d love to fine-tune the notifications so that I only get alerts for specific types of events. For instance, I’d love to have different tones for different notifications—like one for the mailman and another for a potential intruder. This would make it easier to identify the source of an alert without having to check my phone immediately. ![]()

I’ve also been looking into some of the newer devices on the market, like the Nanoleaf Permanent Outdoor Lights.
They look absolutely stunning, and I’m eager to see how they integrate with Hubitat. I’ve heard great things about their compatibility with smart home ecosystems, so I’m hopeful that getting them up and running won’t be too much of a hassle. If anyone has experience with these lights, I’d love to hear about your setup! ![]()
One thing I’ve noticed throughout my journey is how supportive and knowledgeable the smart home community is.
Whether it’s troubleshooting a tricky automation or sharing tips for optimizing device performance, there’s always someone willing to help out. I’m really grateful to be part of such a passionate and collaborative group. ![]()
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue exploring all the possibilities that smart home automation has to offer. From enhancing security to creating more convenient living spaces, the potential is truly limitless.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this ever-evolving field! What are some of your favorite smart home integrations or automations? I’d love to hear your stories and tips! ![]()
