Exploring Smart Home Automation with Aqara and ZHA

As someone who’s been diving into the world of smart home automation, I wanted to share my recent experiences and insights. I recently switched from Zigbee2MQTT to ZHA due to some instability issues I was encountering. The transition has been quite smooth, but I’ve also faced a few challenges along the way, particularly with integrating my Aqara Wireless Remote Switch (Double Rocker) (2016 version).

After some trial and error, I managed to get the device integrated, but it only registers a battery entity. When I press a button, it triggers a zha_event, which changes the args.value from 0 to 1 and back to 0. My goal is to use this event to create an automation based on button presses, but I’m still figuring out the best way to do this. I’ve explored the logs and data structure, but I’m looking for some guidance or tips from the community on how to proceed.

On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with my Smart Thermo-Hygrometer Model H5179. It’s been fascinating to see how it updates in intervals and how it interacts with my thermostat. I’m particularly excited about understanding the relationship between humidity, temperature, and air quality, especially since I struggle with seasonal allergies and dry air-induced nosebleeds.

Another interesting project I’ve been working on is optimizing the visibility of my smart home devices. I’ve been using HABpanel and have been tweaking the CSS to make the text and lines darker and thicker for better visibility, especially for my father who has trouble with low contrast. This has been a great learning experience, and I’m happy to share any tips I’ve picked up along the way.

Overall, the journey into smart home automation has been both challenging and rewarding. I’m excited to continue exploring and learning from the community. If anyone has any insights, tips, or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them!
