I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been an incredible journey!
I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights, especially for those who might be considering setting up their own systems.
Starting with ESPHome, I’ve been absolutely blown away by its flexibility and the range of components it supports. For instance, I’ve been working on integrating an Aqualisa Digital Controller for my bathroom faucet. While I initially thought about using the Climate control component, I’m now exploring if there’s an even more suitable option for water temperature and flow control. It’s been a fascinating learning curve, and I’d love to hear others’ experiences with similar setups!
On the Govee front, I’ve been experimenting with their lights and have been thoroughly impressed by their performance and integration capabilities. I’ve set up a few scenes in my living room that automatically adjust the lighting based on the time of day or my activities. It’s these little touches that really make a home feel smart and personalized.
One challenge I’ve encountered is with my ESP32 setup for window sensors. I’m currently rewiring my house and want to install reed switches for all my windows and doors. I’ve been researching the best cables to use, especially for longer runs, to ensure signal strength isn’t compromised. I’ve come across some recommendations for flexible cables with good insulation, but I’d love to hear if anyone has firsthand experience with specific types of wiring in similar setups.
Another area I’ve been exploring is automating my attic lights. I’ve got a mix of floor lamps and string lights, and I’d love to add a third set of decorative lights on the north wall. My goal is to have a system where I can turn all lights off with a single remote and set a timer to shut them off at different times each day. I’ve been using some basic sockets and remotes so far, but I’m looking for something with better range and automation features. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, I’ve been thinking about how to integrate my Schlage smart lock with a newer security system. I’ve read a bit about 2GIG and QOLSYS options, but I’m trying to figure out which would be the best fit for my needs, especially considering compatibility with my existing Hue lights and Ecobee thermostats.
Overall, this journey has been both challenging and rewarding. I’m excited to continue exploring and learning more about the possibilities of smart home automation. If anyone has tips, tricks, or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation going! ![]()
