Exploring Smart Home Automation with Google Assistant and Echo Show

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and ask for your advice!

I’ve been using Google Assistant for a while now, and it’s been a game-changer for managing my home. I’ve set up routines to notify me when the washer or dryer finishes, or if the front door stays open too long. It’s been super helpful, especially with keeping track of our dogs and toddler!

However, I’ve run into an issue with notifications on my Echo Show. I keep getting the sound indicating a notification, but when I ask what it is, it just says I have X number of notifications without specifying what they are. My Echo Dots do a better job of telling me exactly what’s going on. Does anyone know how I can make the Echo Show provide more detailed notifications?

On a positive note, I’ve found a great workaround for disabling notifications during specific times. I’ve used a SmartThings button placed near my bed. When my wife presses it once, notifications are delayed for an hour, double-tap for two hours, and press and hold for three hours. It’s been a lifesaver for her naps!

I’d love to hear if anyone else has similar setups or any tips for improving notification management. Also, if anyone has creative DIY projects they’ve done with their smart home setup, I’d love to hear about them!

Thanks in advance for your insights and tips! Cheers, [Your Name]
