Exploring Smart Home Automation with Hubitat and Google Assistant

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation with Hubitat and Google Assistant, and it’s been quite an adventure! I got my Hubitat Elevation last year, and while setting it up with various switches, dimmers, and outlets was manageable, integrating smart thermostats from Sinope has been a bit of a puzzle. I thought the zigbee thermostats (TH1123ZB) would work seamlessly with Google Home without the GT130 hub, but it turns out that wasn’t the case. All my switches show up in Google Home, but the thermostats don’t. If Google Home can control switches on my HE, why can’t it control the thermostats? I’m still trying to figure that out.

Another challenge I faced was setting up automation rules for the thermostats on the Hubitat web interface. Initially, I couldn’t get the thermostats to appear in the list of devices when creating simple automation rules. However, I discovered that using the Rule Machine worked perfectly. It was a bit frustrating at first, but problem-solving always feels rewarding once you crack it!

I also experimented with different drivers for the thermostats, but none worked differently than the standard one. I did manage to use some CSS to remove some unnecessary elements from the dashboard tiles, which made everything look cleaner. I’d really like to explore more automation and control options, so if anyone has tips or tricks, I’d love to hear them!

Overall, the journey has been educational, and I’m excited to continue exploring how to make my home smarter and more efficient. If anyone has faced similar challenges or has advice to share, please drop a comment! Let’s learn and grow together in this amazing smart home community.
