Exploring Smart Home Automation with Music and Lights

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with integrating music and lighting automation in my smart home. It’s been a fascinating journey, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or tips!

I’ve always been into creating playlists for different moods, and with the help of smart speakers and bulbs, I’ve taken it to the next level. For instance, I programmed my Hue lights to change colors and brightness based on the genre of music playing. It’s like having a mini concert in my living room!

One thing I’m curious about is how others handle multiple devices from different brands. I have a mix of Philips Hue, Sonos, and some Govee devices, and I’d love to know if there’s a seamless way to control them all without jumping between apps. I’ve heard about Home Assistant being a great hub, but I’m not sure where to start.

Another topic I’d love to discuss is automation speed. I’ve noticed that some automations take a bit longer to execute than others. For example, when I trigger a motion sensor to turn on lights, I’d love it to happen as quickly as possible. Does anyone have insights into how different automation systems (like Node-Red, AppDaemon, or plain YAML) compare in terms of speed?

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with creating my own simple automations using ESP32 and some sensors. It’s been a fun DIY project, but I’d love to learn from more experienced tinkerers out there. What are some common pitfalls or best practices for DIY smart home projects?

Looking forward to hearing from you all and learning more about how to enhance my smart home setup!
