Happy New Year everyone!
As I continue my journey into the world of smart home automation, I thought I’d share some of my recent experiences and discoveries. I’ve been experimenting with Node-RED and the Magic Areas integration, and it’s been a fascinating process!
First, I wanted to migrate from shellyforhass to the native integration. Initially, I was a bit unsure about the process, but it turned out to be straightforward. I simply had to delete the configuration.yaml entry and start fresh from the integration page. I was relieved to see that the Shelly devices retained their names, and my scripts and automations didn’t need to be rewritten. It’s great to know that the native integration is seamless and user-friendly!
On another note, I stumbled upon the Magic Areas project, and it’s been a game-changer for me. This integration allows for automatic presence detection, light automation, and even creates health sensors based on binary sensors like smoke and gas detectors. The ability to aggregate sensors per area has simplified my setup tremendously. I’m no longer tied to writing repetitive automations for each room, which saves me a lot of time and effort. The fact that it pulls areas directly from the Area Registry is a huge plus!
I also wanted to touch on my experience with Node-RED. I’ve been using it to create custom automations, and it’s incredibly powerful. However, I’m still on the lookout for a well-structured Docker Compose file for Node-RED that integrates smoothly with Home Assistant. If anyone has any recommendations or resources, I’d be grateful for the guidance!
Lastly, I’m curious to hear others’ thoughts on the best practices for integrating Node-RED with Home Assistant. Do you have any tips or favorite configurations that you’d like to share? Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other make the most out of our smart home setups!
Cheers to a year of innovation and learning! ![]()
