Exploring Smart Home Automation with Old Devices

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’m absolutely fascinated by how much I can do with the devices I already have. I’ve been using Home Assistant for a while now, and it’s been a great learning experience. However, I’ve come across a few challenges that I’d love to get some advice on.

First off, I have this old GE switch that stopped working, and I also have an OLD Inovelli switch lying around that I never got a chance to install. I’m curious if this Inovelli switch can work with Home Assistant. I’ve heard that sometimes older devices need a special driver or code to work with newer systems. If anyone has experience with this, I’d love to know if it’s worth trying or if I should just stick with a generic driver. It’s just a simple switch in my garage, so I don’t need anything fancy—just on and off with a motion sensor or automation.

Another thing I’ve been exploring is the Govee products. I’ve heard so many great things about their lights and accessories. I’m particularly interested in their smart rice cooker and shower curtain lights. Does anyone have a favorite Govee product they’d recommend? I’d love to hear about your experiences and how they’ve integrated into your smart home setup.

On a lighter note, I stumbled upon this hilarious issue with my Wyze cameras. Every night, my porch light turns off at 11:30 PM, and the shadow from that action triggers the motion sensor, which then turns the light back on for 4 minutes. It’s a bit of a loop, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to disable motion detection just before the light turns off and re-enable it afterward. Any tips or tricks would be super appreciated!

I’ve also been thinking about expanding my smart home setup with some Wyze devices. I’ve heard they’re affordable and work well with Home Assistant. I’m curious if anyone has advice on eliminating those pesky false motion detections, especially at night. I’ve adjusted the sensitivity and created a narrow detection zone, but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Finally, I’ve been exploring the new Rules API from Samsung. It seems like a powerful tool for creating automations, and I’m excited to see how it can integrate with my existing setup. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried it out and has any tips or feedback.

Overall, I’m really enjoying the journey of building my smart home, and I’m grateful for this community for all the support and advice. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or stories to share, I’d love to hear them!
