Exploring Smart Home Automation with Particle Photon

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with integrating the Particle Photon into my smart home setup. As someone relatively new to the world of IoT and smart home automation, I’ve been on a journey to understand how these devices can enhance my daily life.

I recently completed two projects using the Particle Photon, both of which worked seamlessly with SmartThings. The first involved creating a simple IoT device to monitor environmental conditions, and the second was a more complex setup for controlling a smart plug. Both projects were inspired by online tutorials and community support, which I deeply appreciate.

Now, I’m looking to expand my setup by updating the contact sensor device in SmartThings based on the Photon’s status. My goal is to send a signal to SmartThings indicating whether the sensor is open or closed, depending on the digital port’s state. However, I’ve encountered a challenge since the open/closed device templates only provide information for Zigbee and Z-Wave devices. I’m curious if anyone has successfully integrated a Photon-based contact sensor or has any tips on how to approach this.

One thing I’ve learned through this process is the importance of community support and shared knowledge. It’s amazing how much can be achieved with the right resources and guidance. I look forward to hearing from others who might have faced similar challenges or have advice to share.

Thanks for reading, and I hope this post sparks some useful discussions!
