Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been an exciting journey! I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights, and maybe pick up some tips along the way.
First off, I’ve been experimenting with the RestAPI to integrate some custom actions into my setup. I stumbled upon the challenge of triggering a ‘say’ command through the API, which led me to some interesting workarounds. For instance, using a proxy-item to trigger actions on updates has been a lifesaver. It might not be the most straightforward method, but it gets the job done!
On the DIY front, I’ve been working on a couple of projects to enhance my home’s smart features. One of them is setting up motion sensors linked to a smart switch for the bathroom fan. It’s been a great way to automate ventilation without the need for constant manual intervention. I’m curious to hear how others have tackled similar setups, especially with different hardware combinations.
Another project I’ve been tinkering with is using a Shelly 1 to control a pump in my garden. The idea is to monitor moisture levels and automatically water the plants when needed. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, especially with getting the timing right, but seeing it all come together has been really rewarding.
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tackled similar projects or has advice on optimizing these setups. Whether it’s about perfecting API integrations, DIY automation ideas, or just sharing some cool smart home hacks, I’m all ears!
Looking forward to connecting with the community and learning more about the amazing things you all are doing with smart home tech. Let’s keep the creativity flowing! ![]()
