Exploring Smart Home Automation with Shelly and Vera

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been an exciting journey! :rocket: I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips for anyone looking to get started or enhance their existing setup.

One of my favorite devices has been the Shelly Plug S. I recently set up a rule where the plug automatically turns off when the connected device drops below 3W of power usage. It’s been incredibly handy for managing energy consumption and ensuring devices aren’t left on unnecessarily. If anyone is looking to do something similar, I’d be happy to walk you through the steps!

Another highlight has been integrating my Eco-Worthy 100Ah battery into my system. While the smart features are a bit hit or miss, the battery itself performs exceptionally well. The app provides real-time data on battery health, voltage, and load, which has been invaluable for monitoring my caravan setup. The only downside I’ve noticed is the communication module’s tendency to go into standby mode during idle periods, but it’s still a solid choice overall.

I also wanted to touch on the Vera Plus firmware update issue I encountered recently. Running out of space on the device can be a real pain, but I managed to free up some space by clearing out old logs and cache files. If anyone else runs into this, I’d recommend checking your Vera’s storage and removing any unnecessary files.

For those looking to expand their smart home ecosystem, I’d highly recommend exploring Hubitat for its compatibility with a wide range of devices, including Zigbee and Z-Wave. It’s been a game-changer for me in managing my multi-brand setup.

If you’re new to smart home automation, my advice is to start small and gradually build up your system. Begin with a few essential devices, like smart plugs or motion sensors, and expand from there. It’s also worth investing time in learning about the different protocols (Zigbee, Z-Wave, etc.) to ensure compatibility across your devices.

Have any of you encountered similar challenges or have tips to share? I’d love to hear about your experiences and learn from the community! :handshake:
