Exploring Smart Home Automation with Vera and AltUI

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation with Vera and AltUI, and I wanted to share my experiences and some questions I’ve come across. :control_knobs:

My Journey with Vera and AltUI

I’ve been using Vera as my smart home controller for quite some time now, and I recently decided to give AltUI a try for a more customized and sleek interface. The setup was smooth, and I must say, AltUI has really enhanced my user experience. However, I did run into a small hiccup that I wanted to figure out.

A Small Challenge

I registered AltUI under my Vera’s main username, which is also tied to my Vera account. Then, I created an “Other User” for my wife using Vera’s default interface. After setting this up, I noticed that AltUI was only logging in with the new username and was showing as “Unregistered.” This was a bit confusing, and I wanted to get it back to my main username without any hassle. I managed to resolve it by re-registering AltUI under the main account, but I thought it would be helpful to share this experience in case others run into similar issues.

Exploring Smart Home Automation

One of the most exciting parts of my journey has been setting up automations. I’ve configured my IP Cameras to take snapshots whenever motion is detected, which works perfectly. However, I noticed that the snapshots are taken at 3-second intervals. I’m curious if there’s a way to adjust this interval to something shorter or longer. If anyone has insights or tips on this, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Tips and Tricks

For those looking to integrate multiple smart devices, I’ve found that using Vera alongside other hubs like Hue and Aqara can be a great way to expand your ecosystem. However, I’ve heard some users mention connectivity issues when using multiple hubs with Homey. If anyone has successfully managed multiple hubs without problems, I’d love to hear your setup and any tips you might have.

Looking Ahead

I’m really excited about the future of smart home automation. With tools like Vera and AltUI, the possibilities seem endless. I’m currently exploring ways to integrate energy monitoring into my setup, and I’m eager to learn more about how others are managing their energy consumption within their smart homes.
