Exploring Smart Home Innovations and My DIY Curtain Light Project

I recently came across the exciting news about Google’s upcoming Home APIs and how they might integrate with Hubitat. It’s fascinating to think about the potential for seamless integration between Nest devices, Google TV, and Hubitat. I wonder if this could simplify how I currently manage my smart home setup, especially with the mix of devices I have. It would be amazing to have everything work together more cohesively without relying on workarounds like virtual switches. I’m definitely keeping an eye on this development and can’t wait to see how the community embraces it!

On a different note, I wanted to share a fun DIY project I recently completed—a smart curtain light setup. It was a long overdue project that turned out to be both challenging and rewarding. The idea was to bring my outdoor Halloween lights indoors, giving me more flexibility to change themes without worrying about visibility from the inside. The process involved a lot of trial and error, especially with wiring and ensuring the lights could be controlled via my smart home system. I ended up using a combination of smart plugs and a Raspberry Pi to manage the automation, which now allows me to adjust the lights with just a voice command.

One thing I discovered during this project was the importance of proper wiring and the need for some DIY skills. I also realized how much more enjoyable it is to have a system that’s fully integrated with my existing smart home ecosystem. It’s been a great way to experiment with new technologies and push my creative boundaries. I’m now looking forward to exploring more projects, maybe even integrating some of the newer smart home APIs once they become available.

If anyone has experience with similar projects or has tips on how to improve my setup, I’d love to hear from you! The smart home community is always a great source of inspiration and knowledge.
