Hi everyone! I wanted to share my recent experiences as I dive deeper into the world of smart home automation using Home Assistant. It’s been an exciting journey filled with both triumphs and challenges, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips along the way!
I recently started working on integrating my Pico W and ESP32 devices with Home Assistant. While it’s been a bit of a learning curve, especially with YAML programming, I’ve managed to create some cool applications. For instance, I’ve set up a Pico W with an OLED display to monitor temperature and humidity in different rooms. It’s been a great way to keep track of environmental conditions without needing multiple sensors scattered around the house. I’m also experimenting with the Waveshare PicoLCD-1.44 and its 4-button interface to control various ESP or Pico devices. The goal is to make switching between different sensor readings seamless and user-friendly. If anyone has tips on optimizing this setup, I’d be thrilled to hear them!
Another project I’ve been working on is addressing the issue of UK switch plate sizes. I’ve purchased some Duwi Everlux switches and dimmers, but I’ve found that the face plates aren’t quite fitting my existing surface-mounted plastic boxes. It’s a bit of a cosmetic issue, but I’m determined to find a solution that keeps everything looking neat and professional. I’m also planning to chase my electrics into the walls in the future, which will hopefully resolve this problem once and for all. If anyone has experience with similar installations or knows of compatible boxes, please do share your insights!
On the topic of security, I’ve been exploring alternatives to ARLO’s geofencing automation. While I’ve managed to set up some basic automations using third-party tools like IFTTT, it’s been a bit of a workaround. I’m curious to know if others have found more seamless solutions or if they’ve managed to integrate geofencing more effectively within Home Assistant itself. It would be fantastic to hear about successful implementations or innovative workarounds!
One thing I’ve noticed throughout this journey is the incredible sense of community here. Whether it’s troubleshooting YAML syntax, finding compatible hardware, or brainstorming creative automations, the support and shared knowledge have been invaluable. I’m grateful for every tip, suggestion, and story that helps me navigate this exciting world of smart home technology.
As I continue to explore and expand my setup, I’m looking forward to discovering even more possibilities and maybe even contributing some tips of my own. If you’re working on interesting projects or have overcome challenges worth sharing, I’d love to hear about them in the comments below!
