Zigbee Gateway Setup
One of the most exciting projects I undertook was setting up a Zigbee gateway. I decided to go with the Sonoff ZBMINIL2 after reading some great reviews about its reliability and ease of use. The installation process was straightforward, but I encountered a small hiccup with a switch that didn’t have a neutral wire. After some research, I discovered that the issue was due to the LED light’s low power consumption. Once I adjusted the configuration, everything worked like a charm!
Camera Integration

Thermostat Automation
Temperature control is another aspect I’ve been keen on optimizing. I installed several wireless thermostats and smart valves to manage heating efficiently. Initially, I noticed that not all radiators in a room would activate simultaneously, which was a bit puzzling. After some experimentation, I figured out that the valves were responding to the temperature sensor’s readings rather than the room’s actual temperature. By adjusting the sensor’s placement and tweaking the automation rules, I achieved consistent heating across all radiators.
Tips and Tricks
Here are a few tips I’ve picked up along the way:
- Zigbee Network Optimization: Ensure your Zigbee devices are within range of the gateway. If you’re experiencing connectivity issues, try moving the gateway closer to the problematic devices.
- Camera Placement: Position your cameras strategically to cover key areas. Avoid placing them too close to lights to prevent glare in night vision mode.
- Thermostat Calibration: Experiment with different sensor placements and automation settings to find the perfect balance for your home.
