Exploring Smart Home Integration: Staying with Shelly or Diversifying?

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and it’s been an exciting journey! After experimenting with smaller smart solutions, I’ve been using Shelly devices for the past two years, and I must say, they’ve been reliable and user-friendly. However, as I look to expand my setup, I’m now considering whether to stick with Shelly or explore other brands for different components.

Here’s what I’m thinking about:

  1. Temperature Sensors: I need around 5-8 pipe temperature sensors and a few room temperature sensors. Shelly offers some great options, but I’ve heard that ESP-based solutions might be more cost-effective.

  2. Utility Meter Monitoring: I want to integrate gas and water meters into my system. I’m not sure if Shelly has a native solution for this, or if I should look into third-party devices.

  3. Automation Control: I’d like to set up a button system to manually trigger certain automations. Shelly’s buttons are solid, but I’m curious if other brands offer more customization options.

The big question for me is: Should I stay with one brand for consistency, or mix and match based on specific needs? I’ve heard that sticking with a single ecosystem can simplify things, but I’m also tempted by the unique features other brands offer.

Another concern is IP address management. Shelly devices each have their own IP, which could be a limitation as my network grows. I’m wondering if other systems handle this more efficiently.

I’d love to hear from the community: Have you successfully integrated multiple brands? What challenges did you face, and what tips do you have for a seamless experience? I’m eager to learn from your experiences!

Thanks for sharing your insights—I’m excited to see how I can expand my smart home setup!
