Exploring Smart Home Integration with Airthings and HA

Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my journey with integrating my Airthings device into my smart home setup using Home Assistant (HA). As someone who’s deeply into creating a seamless and efficient living environment, I’ve found HA to be an incredible platform for managing all my smart devices. However, I’ve recently encountered a small hiccup that I’m hoping the community can help me navigate through.

So, here’s the situation: I had an Airthings device that needed to be replaced due to an RMA. The new device, as expected, came with different identifiers such as the serial number. HA, being the smart system it is, created new entities for this device, which is great for tracking. However, the old entities are still lingering around with an error/warning message indicating that the integration is no longer providing this device/entity. This has left me with two sets of entities for the same device, which is a bit confusing and not ideal for my setup.

What I really want is to merge these devices into one cohesive entity. Ideally, I’d love to either add the new serial number as an identifier to the old entity or have the ability to combine both entities in the entity list by selecting them and clicking a “combine” button. This way, I could decide which entity is the correct one to keep moving forward. I’ve noticed that someone else had a similar issue and mentioned it in a thread about adding the ability to manually merge duplicate devices. However, I’m not deeply familiar with the underlying workings of HA to start tinkering with adding custom identifiers or figuring out how to merge these devices myself.

I’m sure many of you have had to deal with replacing sensors or devices and would love to hear how you’ve handled similar situations. My goal is to have a single graph showing, for example, the radon levels over the year, rather than having two separate graphs—one for the old device and one for the new. This would make monitoring and analyzing data much more straightforward and visually appealing.

I’m really hoping the community can shed some light on this. Any guidance or suggestions would be incredibly appreciated. Let’s continue to make our smart homes smarter and more integrated together!
