As a new homeowner, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been both exciting and a bit challenging. One of my recent projects has been integrating my August smart lock with SmartThings, and while the basics are working smoothly, I’ve hit a bit of a snag that I’m hoping the community can help me with.
I’ve set up my August lock to automatically lock the door after a few seconds when I leave, which is a fantastic security feature. However, I’ve noticed that if the door sensor detects the door is still open, the lock doesn’t engage. This is a safety measure I fully support, but I’d love to have more control over this behavior. Specifically, I’d like the lock to remain unlocked if the door sensor indicates it’s still open, rather than attempting to lock it automatically. I’ve been experimenting with IFTTT to create a workaround, but it seems August only allows triggers, not actions, which is limiting my options.
I’ve heard that some users have successfully integrated their August locks with SmartThings using custom automation rules, but I’m not entirely sure how to set this up. If anyone has experience with this or knows of a reliable method, I’d be grateful for any guidance or resources you could share. I’m also curious if others have encountered similar issues and how they resolved them.
In the meantime, I’m continuing to explore IFTTT and SmartThings integrations, keeping my fingers crossed for a solution that allows me to maintain the security benefits of my August lock while having more control over its behavior. Thanks in advance for your help and insights!
