Exploring Smart Home Integration with iPads and Zigbee Devices

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home integration lately, and I’m absolutely thrilled with how everything is coming together. I recently stumbled upon the idea of using old iPads as dashboards, which I think could be a fantastic way to repurpose devices that are no longer used for their original purpose. I have three iPads lying around, and I’m brainstorming how to turn them into functional dashboards. One idea is to use one as a night clock in my bedroom, replacing my Echo Show 5. Another could be mounted in my office for guests to use, and the third is still up in the air. I’m even considering jailbreaking them to get more functionality, though I’m not entirely sure how that would work yet. If anyone has experience with setting up dashboards, especially something akin to Fully Kiosk, I’d love to hear your suggestions!

On another note, I’ve been exploring Zigbee devices to integrate with my existing setup. I came across the Shelly 1L and 2L Gen 3 devices, which seem like a great solution for controlling lights and switches, especially in older European homes without neutral wires. I managed to get them working with my Homey hub by using Matter, which was a bit of a process but ultimately rewarding. I’d love to hear if others have had similar experiences or tips for troubleshooting during the setup.

I also wanted to share a success story with my Wyze cameras. After some initial hiccups, I managed to integrate them seamlessly with my existing security system. The Wyze app has been a lifesaver for managing notifications and customizing settings. It’s amazing how a few tweaks can make such a big difference in functionality.

As I continue my smart home journey, I’m constantly amazed by the possibilities and the supportive community here. Whether it’s troubleshooting, sharing tips, or just getting inspired, this forum is a goldmine of information. I’m excited to keep learning and experimenting, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for smart home technology!

If anyone has tips on setting up iPads as dashboards, experiences with Zigbee devices, or any other smart home integrations, please share your insights. I’m all ears and eager to learn more!
