Exploring Smart Home Integration with Thinking Cleaner and Z-Wave

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home integration lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of the most interesting projects I’ve undertaken is setting up the Thinking Cleaner addon for my older Roomba. It’s incredible how this little addon can bring WiFi support to a device that’s a few years old now. I’ve managed to integrate it with Home Assistant, though I did run into a small hiccup along the way. The component was initially set up as a sensor and a switch, but I wanted it to function more like a vacuum. After some research and tweaking, I managed to get it working smoothly. It’s a great example of how with a little effort, you can breathe new life into older devices!

Another area I’ve been exploring is Z-Wave automation. I recently installed the Z-Wave JS UI addon and have been trying to create automations triggered by scene activations. At first, I was a bit puzzled because the command class for scene activation wasn’t showing up in the list. After some digging and reaching out to the community, I realized I needed to ensure the correct command classes were enabled in my device settings. Once that was sorted, setting up the automation was a breeze. It’s amazing how these small adjustments can make such a big difference in functionality!

I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated older devices or have tips for optimizing Z-Wave setups. The smart home ecosystem is so vast, and there’s always something new to learn! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, the journey is filled with fascinating challenges and rewarding successes. Let’s keep sharing our experiences and helping each other navigate this ever-evolving world of smart technology!
