I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I must say, it’s been an incredible journey!
I recently installed Govee mini lamps and strip lights under my kitchen cabinets, and the transformation is nothing short of magical. Not only do they add a warm and inviting ambiance, but they also make cleaning and cooking so much more enjoyable. The vibrant colors and smooth transitions are a joy to work with, and I love how they can be controlled through my smartphone. ![]()

However, my adventure didn’t come without its challenges. I’ve been experimenting with integrating multiple smart devices from different brands, and it’s been a bit of a puzzle to get everything working seamlessly together. For instance, I’ve been trying to set up a Wemo Mini Smart Plug to control an old ceiling light, but getting it to work with my existing Zigbee setup has been a bit tricky. I’ve spent hours researching forums and tweaking my configuration.yaml file, but I’m still not quite there. ![]()
One thing I’ve learned is the importance of proper secrets management. I tried moving my auth tokens from configuration.yaml to secrets.yaml to keep my setup more secure, but it didn’t work as expected. The service calls stopped functioning, and I had to revert to using the actual tokens. If anyone has tips on how to securely manage credentials for service calls, I’d be more than grateful! ![]()
On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring some fun automation ideas. For example, I’d love to create a system where pressing a single button toggles between two different lighting scenes—one for casual dinners and another for movie nights. It’s a simple idea, but I’m not quite sure how to implement it. Any suggestions would be wonderful! ![]()
Overall, this journey has been both frustrating and incredibly rewarding. It’s amazing how technology can transform our homes into smarter, more connected spaces. I can’t wait to see what other innovations I can incorporate into my smart home setup! ![]()
