Exploring Smart Lighting and Automation with Shelly and Node-RED

Hi everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting and automation over the past few weeks, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights. I’ve been using Shelly devices alongside Node-RED to create some really cool automations, and it’s been a fascinating journey!

One of the first things I set up was a motion-activated lighting system in my bathroom. I used a Shelly Plus 1 to control the lights and paired it with a motion sensor. The setup was pretty straightforward, but I did run into a few hiccups along the way. For instance, I initially had trouble getting the motion sensor to communicate properly with the Shelly device. After some troubleshooting, I realized I needed to adjust the sensitivity settings on the motion sensor. Once that was sorted, everything worked like a charm!

I’ve also been experimenting with Node-RED to create more complex automations. One project I’m particularly proud of is a system that turns on my bathroom lights at specific times of the day, based on my routine. I used Node-RED to create a sequence that checks the time and triggers the lights accordingly. It’s such a small thing, but it’s incredibly satisfying to see it all come together.

Another area I’ve been exploring is smart lighting effects. I’ve come across some really interesting Zigbee RGB controllers that allow for dynamic color changes and effects. While I haven’t fully integrated them into my setup yet, I’m excited about the possibilities they offer for creating ambiance in different rooms.

I’d love to hear from others who are also working with Shelly devices and Node-RED. What projects have you been working on? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share? I’m always looking for new ideas and ways to improve my setup.

Cheers,
