Exploring Smart Lighting and Battery Solutions for a Sustainable Home

Hi everyone! I’m really excited to share my journey with smart home automation and get your insights on a few challenges I’m currently facing. :star2:

First off, I’ve successfully integrated a set of smart LED light strips in my living room, and it’s been a game-changer for creating different ambiance settings. However, I’m curious about how others handle the power consumption monitoring aspect. I’ve heard about using smart plugs with power measurement features, but I’m not entirely sure how to set up the automation to turn the lights on or off based on the power readings. Any tips or experiences to share would be super helpful! :bulb:

Another project I’m working on is optimizing my off-grid solar system. I’ve been tracking the battery’s state of charge, but it’s been a bit of a puzzle. I’ve tried reading data from the battery’s integrated BMS, but without much luck. I’m now looking into third-party battery monitors that could provide a more accurate SOC reading. If anyone has experience with such devices or knows of reliable options, I’d love to hear about them! :signal_strength:

On a lighter note, I stumbled upon a really cool feature request regarding TV backlights, especially for 43-inch models. It made me think about how much more versatile smart home tech could be with such additions. I’m curious to know if others have thought about similar features or have any creative workarounds they’ve implemented. :clapper:

Lastly, I wanted to share a tip I found useful when setting up my smart lighting. Using the ‘rules engine’ to create partial device captures has been a lifesaver for managing Hue lights in different zones. It allows me to adjust brightness or colors without disrupting the entire setup, and I’m able to restore the previous state after some time. It’s been a great way to balance automation with manual control. :hammer_and_wrench:

Thank you all for being such an inspiring and supportive community! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from your experiences. Let’s keep the creativity flowing! :sparkling_heart:
