I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting automation and energy management, and it’s been an exciting journey!
I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights, as well as seek advice from the community on a few challenges I’ve encountered.
Smart Lighting Automation
One of the most satisfying projects I’ve undertaken is setting up automated lighting in my home. Using a combination of Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, I’ve managed to create a system that adjusts lighting based on time of day, occupancy, and even weather conditions. For instance, during sunset, my lights gradually dim to create a cozy ambiance, and they brighten up again as it gets darker outside. This has significantly improved my quality of life, especially during those long winter evenings.
However, I’ve noticed an issue with my RGBW bulbs. They work perfectly when powered on but fail to report their power status when off. This is a bit concerning because it means they’re not behaving as expected in my automation rules. Does anyone have experience with this? I’d love to hear if there’s a workaround or a fix for this behavior.
Energy Management
Another area I’ve been exploring is energy management. I’ve installed several smart plugs and meters to track my electricity usage in real-time. This has been incredibly eye-opening! By monitoring which appliances consume the most energy, I’ve been able to adjust my habits and reduce my overall consumption. For example, I now run my washing machine during off-peak hours to save on costs and energy usage.
However, I’ve hit a snag with calculating the cost of charging my electric car. I have a Qubino smart meter that tracks the power usage, and I’d like to integrate this data with my electricity provider’s hourly rates to calculate the exact cost of charging. I’m not very familiar with LUA scripting, so I’m hoping someone in the community has a solution or a script that can help me achieve this.
Community Collaboration
What I love most about this community is the willingness to share knowledge and collaborate on solutions. If anyone has tips on improving my lighting automation or suggestions for energy management, I’d be thrilled to hear them! Let’s continue to innovate and make our homes smarter and more efficient together. ![]()
