I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting automation lately and thought I’d share some of my experiences and questions with the community. It’s been an exciting journey, but also a bit challenging!
First, I’ve been experimenting with setting up automated lighting schedules based on seasonal changes. For instance, I’d love to have my lights adjust not just based on sunrise and sunset times, but also account for whether it’s the middle of winter or summer. I’ve tried using average temperatures over a week to determine the season, but sometimes it feels a bit off—like getting a few warm days in October and the system thinking it’s still summer. I’m curious if others have a more reliable method for detecting seasons without relying solely on the calendar.
On another note, I’ve been exploring how to create a more seamless lighting experience. For example, I’d love to have all my LED strips automatically sync to the same color if any one of them changes. I’ve heard that listening for specific events could work, but I’m not quite sure how to set that up. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
I’d also love to hear how others interact with their lighting systems. Do you prefer grouping lights by rooms or setting up scenes? How complex are your automations? I’m always looking for inspiration to make my setup even better.
Lastly, I’ve been thinking about extending my smart lighting to include some outdoor fixtures. Has anyone here had success with motion-activated lights that also account for small pets or wildlife? I’d hate to have my system trigger every time a mouse scurries by!
Thanks for reading, and I’m excited to hear your thoughts and experiences! ![]()
