Exploring Smart Lighting Automation for Enhanced Security

Hello everyone, I’ve been really excited about how smart lighting can contribute to home security. Recently, I had an unsettling experience where a suspicious person used a flashlight near my windows, and I only found out about it hours later. This incident made me realize the importance of having an automated system that can alert me immediately if something unusual happens outside.

I decided to set up an automation using my Phillips Hue exterior lights and a motion sensor. The idea is that whenever the motion sensor detects movement, the exterior lights should turn on, and I should receive a notification on my phone. This way, I can be aware of any activity around my house in real-time.

I programmed this in the SmartThings app, but I noticed that it only worked when I manually turned on the exterior lights through the app. This defeats the purpose because I want the system to work automatically without my intervention. I’ve tried troubleshooting, but I’m not quite sure where the issue lies.

Has anyone successfully set up a similar automation? I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have. Maybe there’s a setting I’m missing or a different approach I could take to make this work seamlessly. Let’s discuss and see how we can enhance our home security with smart lighting!
