Exploring Smart Lighting Automation with Philips Hue and Homey

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I wanted to share my recent experience integrating Philips Hue bulbs with my Homey setup. It’s been a journey of discovery, learning, and a bit of trial and error. Let me walk you through it.

Initially, I was using mi-light lamps with Homey via a mi-light bridge. It worked perfectly for grouping lights, but I always felt limited because I couldn’t control individual lamps within a group. That’s when I decided to switch to Philips Hue with their bridge, hoping for more flexibility and better integration.

After setting up the Hue bridge and connecting all my lamps, I immediately noticed the improved color accuracy and dimming capabilities. However, I ran into a snag when trying to create groups. The Group app didn’t seem to recognize my Hue lamps at first. I’d select the lamps and choose the actions I wanted (like on/off, dimming, and color temperature), but it just wouldn’t work as expected.

After some research and reaching out to the community, I found that the issue was with how the groups were being configured. By manually adding each lamp to the group in the Hue app first, and then linking it to Homey, everything started working smoothly. It was a bit of a learning curve, but the end result has been worth it!

One feature I’ve particularly enjoyed is the ability to create dynamic scenes. For example, I’ve set up a relaxing evening scene where the Hue lamps dim to a warm golden hue, perfect for unwinding after a long day. Pairing this with my Homey’s automation capabilities, I can trigger these scenes with voice commands or even geofencing when I’m approaching my home.

I’d love to hear from others who have combined Philips Hue with Homey. What tips or tricks have you discovered? Have you faced similar challenges and how did you overcome them? Let’s continue this conversation and help each other make the most out of our smart lighting setups!

Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
