Exploring Smart Lighting Automation with RGB Bulbs

I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! As a newbie to Home Assistant, I decided to start with some affordable RGB Zigbee bulbs to experiment with. The bulbs I picked up were these [amazon link], and while they’ve been a blast to play with, I’ve hit a few bumps along the way that I thought I’d share with the community.

One thing I noticed right away is the temperature range on the dashboard. It shows a limited range of 3000-6000, but when I click on a custom color in the palette—like dark blue or red—the bulbs respond beautifully. It seems like these bulbs are capable of producing a wide range of custom colors, but the temperature field doesn’t accept values below 3000. I’m curious if more expensive bulbs offer the ability to set temperatures below 3000. If they do, I’d love to hear about specific models or brands that support this feature!

Another challenge I’ve faced is setting up rules for color changes. From what I can tell, there are only two ways to set the color: pick from the limited colors in the drop-down menu or specify the temperature. I’m wondering if there’s a way to expand the color options or if there’s a workaround to make the temperature range more flexible. Maybe there’s a template or a multiplier I can use to adjust the values? I tried a few things with value templates, but I kept getting invalid config errors. If anyone has successfully done this, I’d love to hear how you tackled it!

On a positive note, the community support has been incredible. I’ve found some fantastic resources and tutorials that have helped me troubleshoot and learn more about smart lighting setups. It’s amazing how a little research and some trial and error can turn into a functional and fun smart home feature.

If anyone has tips on optimizing RGB bulb performance, recommendations for bulbs with broader temperature ranges, or advice on setting up more advanced color automation rules, I’d be thrilled to hear from you! Let’s keep the learning and experimenting going—this journey is as much about the process as it is about the results. :rocket:
