Exploring Smart Lighting Automation with Sunset Triggers

As a new homeowner, I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting to create a more comfortable and energy-efficient home. One feature I’ve been particularly excited about is setting up automations based on sunset times. I recently upgraded to the new app and decided to give this a try, but I ran into some unexpected challenges.

My goal was to create an automation that turns on my outdoor lights about 30 minutes after sunset. I thought it would be straightforward—just set the trigger to sunset and adjust the delay. But when I checked my system today, the lights didn’t turn on as expected. I also set up another automation to turn off a plant light at sunset, and that didn’t work either. I’m a bit puzzled because I followed the instructions in the app, but clearly something isn’t quite right.

I decided to dig deeper into the settings. I found that the sunset trigger uses the local sunset time based on my location, which is great. However, I noticed that the automation logs didn’t show any activity related to the sunset trigger. This makes me think there might be an issue with how the app is calculating or applying the sunset time. I checked the light history, and there’s no record of the automation triggering at all.

I’ve reached out to the community for advice, and I’m hoping someone can shed some light on this. In the meantime, I’m considering alternative approaches, like using a timer-based automation as a temporary workaround. But I’m really looking forward to getting the sunset-triggered automation working properly—it would add such a nice touch to my home!

If anyone has successfully set up similar automations or encountered this issue before, I’d love to hear your tips or troubleshooting steps. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create smarter homes!
