I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting automation lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! I recently set up a Sonoff Mini device using Tasmota firmware and integrated it with my Hubitat ecosystem. The goal was to create a seamless lighting solution that updates statuses in real-time, ensuring my dashboard always reflects the current state of my lights. However, I encountered a few hiccups along the way that I thought I’d share and seek some advice on.
Initially, everything seemed to work smoothly. Turning the device on or off via the Hubitat app or the Tasmota web UI functioned as expected. The device responded correctly, and the status updated on the Tasmota interface. But here’s where things got a bit tricky: when I manually toggled the device itself, the status on Hubitat didn’t update unless I manually refreshed the device page. This inconsistency was a bit frustrating, especially since I rely on real-time updates for my smart home setup.
I also noticed that the MQTT feature was disabled on my Tasmota device, which might be contributing to the issue. I’ve heard MQTT can help with more seamless communication between devices, so I’m considering enabling it to see if that resolves the status update problem. Additionally, I’ve been exploring the Hue emulation feature on Tasmota, which I hope can bridge any gaps between the two ecosystems.
Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is setting up a custom siren system. I purchased an Aeotec smart switch plug to power a 12V burglary siren. While manually triggering the siren works perfectly, it doesn’t activate when an alarm is triggered through my Z-Wave setup. I’m curious if there’s a specific configuration or rule I need to set up in Hubitat to ensure the siren fires up alongside my other security devices.
On a lighter note, I’ve been absolutely thrilled with how my smart home setup has transformed my daily routine. From automating my morning coffee to adjusting the lights based on my schedule, it’s been a game-changer. I’m now looking into more advanced automation rules, like setting up a routine where my lights dim gradually as I wind down for the night.
If anyone has tips on resolving the status update issue with Tasmota and Hubitat or insights on getting my custom siren to activate seamlessly, I’d be grateful for the advice! It’s been a fantastic learning experience, and I’m eager to continue expanding my smart home setup.
