Exploring Smart Lighting Customization and Grouping Solutions

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately and I’m absolutely fascinated by the possibilities it offers. I wanted to share some of my experiences and also pick your brains on a few things I’m trying to figure out.

First off, I’ve been experimenting with grouping different lighting devices together—smart bulbs, wall switches, and even some older UPB switches. The idea is to create a seamless system where I can control everything from my voice commands or the HA app. However, I’ve hit a bit of a snag. When I group these devices together, sometimes the commands don’t sync perfectly. For example, if I tell Alexa to turn off the lights in my den, the smart bulbs work as expected, but the UPB wall switch remains on. It’s a bit confusing, especially when family members who aren’t as tech-savvy start flipping the switches manually. I’ve tried prioritizing certain devices in the group, but it doesn’t always work as smoothly as I’d like.

Another thing I’m curious about is the ability to customize the behavior of these groups. For instance, if I send a command to change the color of all the lights in my bedroom, it would be great if the system could keep trying until all devices are in sync. I’ve noticed that sometimes a few lights just don’t catch up, and it would be awesome if there was a way to ensure consistency across the board. I’ve heard that some devices have latency issues, but I’m not sure if there’s a workaround for that.

On a lighter note, I’ve also been playing around with some cool lighting effects for festive occasions. I’ve set up a few scenes that change colors throughout the day, creating a warm ambiance in the evenings and a vibrant atmosphere during the day. It’s been a fun way to experiment with the capabilities of my smart bulbs!

If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing group commands, or insights into how to ensure all devices respond consistently, I’d love to hear them. It’s amazing how much potential this system has, and I’m excited to keep exploring and learning more!

Cheers,
