Exploring Smart Lighting Integration with OpenHAB and HomeKit

Hello everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! I’ve got a mix of tunable white DMX lights and some Hue bulbs, and I’m trying to find the best way to control them seamlessly within OpenHAB and HomeKit.

One thing I’ve noticed is how effortlessly Hue bulbs integrate with HomeKit. The ability to adjust color temperature directly from the Home app is simply delightful. It makes me wonder if there’s a way to replicate this experience for my tunable white DMX lights without resorting to virtual items and complex rules. I’d love to hear if anyone has successfully achieved this or has any insights to share!

Another thought I’ve been exploring is the idea of introducing a dedicated item type for tunable white lights in OpenHAB. With the increasing popularity of RGB+W and RGB+CCT setups, having a more intuitive way to manage these devices could really enhance the user experience. It would be fantastic if OpenHAB could natively support these configurations, making setup and control more straightforward for everyone.

I’d also love to hear about others’ experiences with integrating different lighting systems. Have you found any workarounds or clever solutions that make managing diverse lighting setups easier? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all for your insights and for being part of this amazing community!

Best regards,
